First Day of Kindergarten

This kid is about to burst

My three year old (four in October) is starting school. She is so excited to be going to school like her big sisters, she can hardly stand it. Her sisters have been running a school for her in our basement for a couple of years. They call it ‘learn and play.’ She has a desk and they use the chalkboard to teach her letters and numbers. Lately they have been teaching her how to spell her name and French vocabulary.

Finally – a big kid

My Big Lie – 35 Years Later

My Big Lie

It was arts and crafts time in kindergarten and – as all good children do – we were sitting around our table, eating paste and cutting paper to eat later. At that particular point, I had a thought – perhaps inspired by the paste, perhaps evidence of my burgeoning creativity. In this moment, I was inspired, the muses of art and beauty struck. I decided that I was going to create the greatest art the world had ever seen. I decided to cut my own hair. [Read more…]

Thank You!

Thank you card

In the fall I asked you, my faithful readers to click your mouse and cast your votes in the Aviva Community Fund competition.  My daughters’ school was a contender for funds to build a new playground for the kindergarten kids.  The playstructure is more than 30 years old and can only fit six kids at a time.  This year our school went to full day kindergarten and while not all 140 kids are in the yard at a time, there are often 90 kids out there.

On Tuesday this week, they announced the winners of the competition. [Read more…]

We are trying to build a new kindergarten playground at my kids’ school.  We have made the semi-finals in a contest to win funding from Aviva Insurance.  We need your help and your votes.

I’d appreciate if you could take minute and cast your vote.

You can vote today and every day until the 11th.  Every vote helps!

Aviva Community Fund

My kids go to Vincent Massy Public School in Ottawa and our school could use a new playground for the 130 Kindergarten students.

This year we started full-day kindergarten and my five year old is enjoying her full days at school and learning lots of new things.  The playground which was never really a great playground is now quite inadequate for the five kindergarten classes.  They put up a new fence this year to enlarge the space.  The play structure is small and is really a toddler structure.
