Dad Guide E-Books
This is my first e-book and it is available for download in .pdf format. It is a compilation of a series of blog posts on the topic of sexual health and menstruation to help my fellow dads talk with their daughters and support them through puberty.
Sexual Health Education Books
I haven’t personally read What Makes a Baby with my daughters – yet. I do however have a number of friends in the sexual health education world who think it is fantastic and recommend it highly. I respect their knowledge and judgement and so I freely pass along their recommendation of this book as an option for you to consider reading with your kids.
This has been our starting point with all three girls. We read this book with them when they are around the age of two and it is a great book for teaching them all the correct names of their body parts, arms, legs, penises, vulvas/vaginas alike. It is the foundation for the rest of our conversations with our kids about sexual health.
We have read the first two books in this series by Robie Harris starting with It’s Not the Stork!: A Book About Girls, Boys, Babies, Bodies, Families and Friends and on to It’s So Amazing!: A Book about Eggs, Sperm, Birth, Babies, and Families. These three books are designed to be read to and with kids and for them to read on their own. Each is targeted to specific ages and all are excellent. Our oldest is nine and isn’t quite yet into puberty so we haven’t read the third one yet, but in the next couple of years depending on how things go, we will definitely be reading it together. I can’t say enough about these books and how helpful they have been to us in our conversation with our kids. In a few years we’ll be starting them all over again with our youngest who is 2 1/2.
