Bedtime used to be a relatively conflict-free time of the day. We’d read with our two older girls and put them to bed, sing some songs and put on a cd of their choice. Laura and I alternated which kid we read to at night and the girls would alternate deciding who gets to chose the song we sing and who gets to choose the CD since they share a room.
Lately it has been all about mummy. Nobody wants to wants to read with me or let me put them to bed. Lately I have been putting our toddler to bed since the girls only want to read with mummy or on their own. Tonight Laura put our youngest to bed while I dealt with a tantrum that was mostly comprised of our six-year old shouting mummy and a refusal to get into bed. Neither kid wanted me to read to them and even our toddler was upset to have been left with me for a few minutes.
So instead of spending some nice quality time with my daughters I am left feeling irritated and frustrated, Laura didn’t get quiet quality time with our youngest and nobody got what the wanted. It makes it hard to be an engaged dad when my kids reject me.
At least the cat was happy to see me and spend time with me.
