Today is my blogiversary. This here blog is two years old today. I was working on a post that was going to be a letter to my three daughters about who I see them as at this point in their lives and what I would do to help them build on who they are today. It started to feel like I was not writing it for them, but for you. I was thinking about how it was the kind of thing that would make people tell me what a great dad I was being and share it with others. It was about writing something bigger to mark the age of my blog. It would not have marked anything of significance for them. It probably would have been good for my blog stats and that is not why I write. I want to write for me and write about things that are important to me without exploiting my family (too much).
Once I realized the shift that had happened in my thinking I decided to stop where I was. I will continue to write the piece and once I’m satisfied with it, I will sit down with my two older girls and read it to them and talk with them about what they want and how I can support them. I will not publish it. It is between me and them and it will stay that way.
So instead to celebrate my 2nd blogiversary I give you my blog origin story – it includes music to get you moving Round and Round as it were.

Round and Round
A couple of years ago Laura bought me the Matt Andersen album Live at the Phoenix and the last song on the album is called Round and Round. It is a bouncy blues song and our four year-old loves the song. She likes to have me scoop her up and dance round and round in circles with her to the song. Lately she has been asking to listen to it in the van where we can turn it up loud. She is a blues-child, that one. For me the lyrics are about resiliency and keeping a positive attitude about life. I can’t think of better parameters for a blog that will frequently touch on parenting and the challenges life throws our way.
Round and Round – Matt Andersen
You’ve got to give your all, do your best, take the journey and pass the test. You’ve got to go round and round.
You’ve got to buy it high and sell it low. Show them yes when they tell you no. You’ve got to go round and round.
You’ve got to make it good when it’s bad. Leave them happy when they’re sad. You’ve got to go round and round.
My favourite day is yesterday, my favourite way is the only way.
You’ve got to go round and round
You’ve got to let it go when its gone, get back up and carry on. You’ve got to go round and round.
You’ve got to make your mark where you stand. Always do whenever you can. You’ve got to go round and round.
